No, you didn’t buy a gun. A firearm is not being shipped to you. If you received the email below, please take a moment to realize that it is just The Gun Purchase Scam.
As scams go, this is another variant of the Thank You for Your Purchase Scam. That means that there is no truth to this message. There is no gun. There is no charge to your bank account. Nothing is going to happen when you delete and ignore this email! Consider: this same email was probably sent to a million other people.
Scammers are forever trying out new ways to alarm potential victims. They have figured out that Americans have strong opinions about guns, so they’re incorporating that into their messaging. But please understand that it doesn’t matter how you feel about firearms. This is just a manipulation tactic!
The bad guys want to “get you in the feels”, cause some kind of strong feeling in you. They hope that a surge of emotion will compromise your judgment, and in that moment, you will (unwisely) pick up the phone and call them. Do not fall for this! Anyone who calls the number in this sort of email will speak directly with the scammers, and they will drag you into a remote control scam.
Just delete the email. Or mark it as spam. And move on!
