So many phish in the sea — the latest scam for me to show you is this Dell Purchase phishing email:
If you get this, it may seem rather believable. Much like the Costco phishing message, this Dell scam is sent from Dell, and the sender address and internal links lead to their website. But it is still a sham, and you should not act on it. Do NOT call the number shown in the email.
To make this phishing email seem real, the scammers have:
- Compromised someone’s corporate email address
- Used the stolen email address to get into their Dell Purchasing account
- Made a real purchase on the Dell website (on credit or with a stolen payment method)
- Altered the Ship To fields on the order to show a bogus phone number and USA address
- Taken the email and order receipt and sent it out to countless email addresses (like yours)
Anyone who calls the phone number on the invoice will not reach Dell. A cybercrook will answer and try to con you out of your money with a fake refund scheme. So just delete this type of email.
