The YouTube Privacy Settlement

The YouTube Privacy Settlement

Yes, there has been a recent class action suit against YouTube, and now that it’s wrapping up, you can consider getting involved. The case revolved around your children watching YouTube while Google allegedly collected data about them. Were your kids’ privacy violated? Google has settled the matter to the tune of $30M, and admitted no wrongdoing. All we get is this YouTube Privacy Settlement.

Who can participate in this settlement? From the claim website: “You (or your child) are included in the Settlement if you (or they) are people in the United States who, at any time from July 1, 2013 to April 1, 2020, were under 13 years old and watched content allegedly directed to children on YouTube.” If that sounds like you, then you can file a claim to get your (small) piece of the pie. The process is short and sweet. You could either go to this website, or mail in a printed form.

As you consider the claim form, some of you may pause. Because it asks for some basic info about you and your child (who may still be a minor). It’s perfectly understandable to hesitate to give out your child’s info on a mystery website. The most I can say is that this class action suit and settlement is real, and the claims website states that it is “using your information for case administration purposes only”.
