Google’s Inactive Account Manager

Estate planning involves wills, POAs and beneficiary selections… and also your Google account? Yes, Google has a tool for you to use as you plan for what happens when you are no longer around. Anyone with a Google account can use the Inactive Account Manager. This allows you to designate someone(s) to have access to your Google data after a set period of inactivity.

To find this tool, you may use this link. You can also go to your account page with Google at https://myaccount.google.com , and then click Data & Privacy, and then scroll way down to select “Make a plan for your digital legacy”.

The Inactive Account Manager will let you designate up to 10 different people to receive your Google data after your account is no longer in use. You can designate the waiting period (from 3 to 18 months) and you can also pick and choose what Apps & Services are bequeathed to each person. So for example, you could allow one person to gain all of your data, while another person only gets access to your photos.
