Today, Microsoft announced that Skype is shutting down in May 2025. Specifically, we can expect Skype to stop working on 5/5/2025. If you still use Skype, please consider moving over to Microsoft Teams.
If you’re on a Windows computer, you probably already have Teams on your system. Microsoft has been proactive about pre-installing Teams. Check out your Start Menu or All Apps list, and look for the purple icon labeled “Microsoft Teams:.
If you don’t see it or if you are on a non-Windows computer, Teams is a free download for a variety of platforms:

For computers running other operating systems, consider using Teams on the web (in the browser), rather than a download.
When first using Teams, you’ll want to sign in with your Microsoft account, probably using the same email and password as you did with Skype.
If you decide to give Teams a pass, Skype will allow you to export a lot of your data, to keep or use elsewhere. Check out this page for more info and make sure to take care of it all before May 5th!
