PC users have used the Windows Notepad program for decades. It’s a barebones text editor that came out in the 80’s to help introduce user to the “computer mouse”. Over the years, it’s seen some modest tweaks and upgrades, but now I think Microsoft has gone too far. Their AI now appears inside of our humble Notepad app.
If this affects you, you can try to disregard the Copilot that oh-so-helpfully appears in the upper corner. You can click the cogwheel to get to the Settings area, and switch off Copilot at the bottom (but be ready for it to enable itself again after future updates).
Or you can try something else! Notepad++ is a free download that should run on any Windows PC. And while it offers many helpful bells and whistles, AI is not included.
